The Chesapeake Energy Arena, originally known as the Ford
Center, is a multipurpose sports and entertainment arena located in Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma.
The indoor arena is currently home to the NBA's Oklahoma
City Thunder, but also used to house the Central Hockey League's Oklahoman City
Blazers as well as the Yard Dawgz arena football team. Additionally, following
Hurricane Katrina's damaging effect on the City of New Orleans, LA, the New
Orleans Hornets used the arena during their 2005-2006 basketball season.
However, the Chesapeake Energy Arena is not only used for
sports events. The building also serves as backdrop to a myriad of events
ranging from high school graduation to ice shows, concerts and civic events.
(WWE, bull riding competitions, Ultimate Fighting Championships etc.)
The arena is owned by the city of Oklahoma City and first
opened back in 2002, just three years after construction on it began.
Originally marketed as a state of the art arena, the facility was built to
minimum NBA and NHL specifications.
The arena spans 581,000 square feet and can hold up to 19,675 people on three seating levels. It features 3,380 club seats, 7 luxury, or party, suites and 49 private suites. It sits directly across the street from the Cox Convention Center, and features a full service restaurant and bar called The OLD NO. 7. Other dining options include an Irish Pub and a venue called The Court side Club, a huge restaurant and hangout area, in addition to the Victory Club, the new Terrace Lounges and the Sunset Carvery.
