Germain Arena is a multipurpose entertainment facility
midway between Naples and Fort Myers in Estero, Florida. The venue opened in
1998 and seats more than 7,000 people, making it the largest facility of its
kind in the southwestern region of the state. It is home to the Everblades, the
ECHL team affiliated with the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes.
The Florida College Hockey Classic takes place there every
December and features host schools Cornell University and the University of
Maine playing against two invitational teams. The tournament prize is the Ned
Harkness Cup, named after the former head coach and general manager of the
Detroit Red Wings. The venue hosts various events throughout the year,
including concerts, trade shows, conventions, mixed martial arts events, boxing
and the circus.
The rink at Germain Arena is open for public skating
sessions. All ages are welcome with figure and hockey skate rentals available
in sizes for children and adults. Beginners can take skating lessons from instructors
who are fully insured and US figure skating certified. Classes offered include
figure skating, synchronized team skating and ice dancing.
Aspiring hockey players from age 7 to 14 can take lessons
from USA hockey certified coaches to learn proper stick handling while
shooting, passing and stopping the puck. The Florida Everblades present annual
clinics for competitive skaters. The youth hockey league has three seasons per
year with players from pre-school to high school. The arena's adult hockey league
has 500 participants on 40 teams and plays year round.
