The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall Box Office

Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall | Box Office Ticket Sales

Whether you live, work, or plan to visit the Portland, Oregon area, you should consider visiting the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. This beautiful building features the Italian Rococo Revival style of architecture.  Originally built in 1928 as the Portland Public Theater, it has been open under its current name since 1984.  It has many great features, including a portable acoustic shell and dressing rooms for up to 90 performers.  Over 2,500 audience members can fit inside the hall to enjoy each performance.

The building has an interesting history.  It was designed by the famous brothers Rapp and Rapp, who are well known in architectural circles.  When it first opened, it was primarily a vaudeville theater.  A few years later, as movies rose in popularity, it changed its name to the Paramount Theater and showed Paramount films.  During the depression, psychics and roving musicians were hired to entertain patrons before movie showings.  Eventually the theater was purchased by the Evergreen chain of theaters, who already had several other theaters in the area.

Over time, the building began to deteriorate. Furthermore, owners realized that it did not make sense to continue running a giant movie theater when many people were opting to stay home and watch television instead. It was transformed into a concert venue, featuring such stars as Heart and Tom Petty.  In the 1980s, it finally underwent much needed renovation to restore it to its former glory.  Today, it is the home of the Oregon Symphony, and the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall a great place to hear this talented group play.
