The NBA looks like it could feature a dramatically altered
landscape in the upcoming season, as many teams have taken steps either forward
or backward. While anything can happen in sports, there are a handful of
players whose moves could drastically change the way next year’s standings
look. Here are some of the biggest moves that have taken place so far
in this NBA offseason.
The biggest offseason addition was widely believed to be made by
the Houston Rockets, who added center Dwight Howard. Although Howard has been
something of a headache to his teams the last couple of years, there’s no
doubting his talent. Now that his situation is set for the foreseeable future,
many expect him to return to elite-level status.
On the flipside, the team that Howard left, the Los Angeles
Lakers, are expected by many to struggle. Not only did Howard leave town, but
start guard and team leader Kobe Bryant is expected to miss significant time
due to an Achilles tendon tear suffered toward the end of last season.
Although many players changed teams during this NBA offseason, the
elite teams last year are all expected to remain strong. However, with
additions being made to the Rockets, Golden State Warriors (who added forward
Andre Iguodala), and Cleveland Cavaliers (who signed center Andrew Bynum), it
should definitely shape up to be an interesting season.
