Chaifetz Arena Parallels the Greatness of Saint Louis

Chaifetz Arena

Saint Louis, Missouri is called the "Gateway to the West.  Bar B Q, the blues are among it s cultural legacies.  Saint Louis has been home to business and trade since its beginning. The river systems that fostered its early prominence as the west's business hub also provided the city's diversity of cultures and ideas. The Jesuits founded Saint Louis University in 1818 adding to the city's richness. The Chaifetz Arena brings still more diversity and culture to the Saint Louis area.

Saint Louis University is one of the nation's premier research universities. The Chaifetz Arena is housed on its campus.  Research carried on by the University has served the community of Saint Louis and the world, the same can be said for the entertainers and events hosted by the arena.
Seating 10,600, the arena is venue that is more than capable of hosting either a sporting or cultural event. Originally designed to house the Saint Louis University's basketball and volleyball programs it is also used for corporate gathering, trade shows, and more intimate and personal events. The arena's total of 16 suites offers a number of options for either type of gatherings.  Lorenzini's Lounge offers all the luxuries of the suites plus a full service bar and catering, and 250 seating capacity, as well as other exclusive amenities.
The state of the art arena facility gets its name from a once struggling college student who became a renowned neuropsychologist, Dr. Richard A. Chaifetz, a selfless benefactor of the arena. His intellectual and culturally generosity are only paralleled to that of Saint Louis, Missouri's own, making the Chaifetz Arena more than just an extraordinary venue.

Top Auburn Football Players of the 2000s

As the AuburnTigers begin their football season, here is a look at the best players from 2000-2009 (Cam Newton only played for the Tigers in 2010, so he does not count). Fans with Tigers football tickets will remember these players fondly:

1.) Carnell Williams – Few running backs across the country over the past decade were as successful as “Cadillac”. A starter for the Tigers by the end of his true freshman season, Williams finished his career No. 2 in school history in rushing with 3,831 yards, trailing only 1885 Heisman trophy winner Bo Jackson, and also holds the school record for rushing touchdowns with 45. He did this despite splitting carries with fellow 2005 first round pick Ronnie Brown. Unfortunately, after earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2005, his promising pro career was derailed by several serious knee injuries, and he was never able to return to the form that made him the No. 5 overall pick.

2.) Karlos Dansby – There are few linebackers to ever play that game that are as versatile as the athletic Dansby, who make an impact in multiple aspects of the game on defense. A three-year starter at outside linebacker for the Tigers, Dansby racked up 219 tackles, 36 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, 15 pass deflections and eight picks, and was named an All-American as a senior in 2003. A two-time All-SEC pick, Dansby was a tremendous force on the defensive side of the ball. He went on to have great success in the NFL, starting for the Arizona Cardinals for six seasons before signing one of the largest contracts ever for a linebacker with the Miami Dolphins.

3.) Marcus McNeill – Offensive lineman rarely get the credit they are due, but McNeill was so dominant that he is impossible to leave off this list. A four-year starter for the Tigers, McNeill received both All-SEC and All-America first team honors in both 2004 and 2005, as he did not allow a sack in either season and paved the way for huge years from Williams, Brown and Kenny Irons. A mammoth presence on the line at 6-foot-7 and over 330 pounds, McNeill was one of the best college offensive lineman of the past decade, and enjoyed a brief but successful career with the San Diego Chargers before retiring due to recurring neck issues.

National League West Update (Breaking News!)

Melky Cabrera | Rockies Tickets

The National League West has been one of the most tightly contested divisions among the top 2 teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants, for much of the year.  The standings currently reflect both the Dodgers and Giants being tied with record of 64-53 with Diamondbacks in third at 58-58.  The San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies round up the bottom of the division with records of 52-66 & 43-71.  The Dodgers had been in control of the division for much of the 2012 season however for the better part of the last month San Francisco was leading the division due to their dominant pitching rotation, although with the breaking news today this could all change rapidly.  The Giants best and most consistent hitter this season was with no doubt Melky Cabrera who had thus far posted 11 home runs with 60 RBI’s and a .346 batting average in his first season with San Francisco.  However, Cabrera has no been suspended 50 games for violating the leagues substance abuse policy.

This is highly disappointing in a sport that has been ripe with controversies very similar to this for the past decade.  What is even more disheartening is the fact that it is usually the best players who get caught using performance enhancing drugs, like last years NL MVP Award winner Ryan Braun.  Cabrera will miss the last 45 games of the season and will serve the next 5 either at the beginning of next season or during the Giants potential post-season run.  Taking a bat like that out of the Giants order will most likely be incredibly detrimental to the Giants success and hopes of winning the NL crown as the Dodgers now have the far better offensive team.  Though the Giants have relied on their pitching for much of the season they will have to place an even greater emphasis on those 5 players even more now as their run production will surely decrease.

The Colorado Rockies have been a team in search of their identity, which without their two best players, has been difficult to say the least.  Both Troy Tulowitzki and Todd Helton have suffered serious injuries this year, which has put almost the entire offenses weight on the shoulder of outfielder Carlos Gonzalez.  Gonzalez has had a great season, but one man cannot carry a baseball team and with the high volume of runs being allowed by the Colorado pitching staff they may already be planning for the 2013 MLB season and draft.

Ultimately, with this devastating news to the city by the bay do not be surprised to see Arizona make a run at the top spot in the NL West, while the LA Dodgers appear to be the clear favorites at this point.

3 Greatest Ole Miss Football Players of All Time

Archie Manning | Ole Miss Football Tickets

With an all time record of 621-486-35 the Ole Miss Rebels are one of the gems in the SEC with 6 conference titles.  Furthermore, the Rebels have 3 claimed National Championships and are 21-12-0 in the postseason.  Here are 3 of their greatest football players of all time.

3. Patrick Willis

Without a doubt the most decorated defensive player in the history of the school, Patrick Willis is now considered the best linebacker in football as he currently anchors the defense for the San Francisco 49ers.  He was a 2-time All-American in 2005 and 2006 while also being named the SEC Defensive Player of the year in ’06 along with winning the Butkus and Jack Lambert Awards.  He as well won the Lombardi award in 2006 and all of these accolades led him to be the 11th overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.

2. Eli Manning

The youngest man from football royalty, Eli Manning is perhaps the most successful NFL player of any Rebel to ever come through the program.  He is a 2-time Super Bowl champion as well as 2-time Super Bowl MVP.  He also holds several NFL records including most 4th quarter touchdown passes in a regular season (15) most road playoff wins by a quarterback (5) and most passing yards in a single postseason (1,219 yards) as well as sharing many others.  While playing for the Rebels Eli had a career 138.1 passer rating with 10,286 total passing yards and threw 84 touchdowns to only 36 interceptions.  He also earned several collegiate awards including both the Cotton and Independence Bowl(s) MVP’s, the SEC MVP and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, among many others.

1. Archie Manning

Despite not being quite as successful in the NFL as his two sons, Archie Manning is without a doubt one of the most successful quarterbacks in SEC history.  He held the records for most career passing yards and touchdowns, which stood until being eclipsed by his son, Eli, almost 30 years later.  In the first national broadcast of a college football game, Archie threw for a ridiculous 436 yards while also rushing for 104 and tossing 3 touchdowns in a 33-32 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide.  The 540 yard performance is still tied for the SEC all-time single game yards record and is one of many examples of why Archie Manning is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

A Giant Trade

Hunter Pence | San Francisco Giants Tickets

Currently tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the National League West division after being swept by them in a 3-game series this past weekend, the San Francisco Giants improved their roster today by acquiring the Phillies outfielder Hunter Pence, who in only 5 MLB seasons has totaled 471 RBI’s, 943 hits and a batting average of .290.  Last season Pence finished 4th in the MLB in batting average (.314) and eighth in RBI’s with 97.  Furthermore, he is a spectacular fielder with blazing speed and great knowledge of the position and field.  The Giants sent 2 prospects and outfielder Nate Schierholtz to Philadelphia in exchange for Pence, which on paper appears to work out far better for San Francisco.

This season, Pence is hitting .271 with 17 home runs and 59 RBI’s for the struggling Phillies and will give a much-needed boost to an inconsistent Giant offense.  San Francisco is currently tied with the Dodgers for 11th in the MLB in runs scored at 408 and it is fairly safe to presume that whoever totals more in that category will likely end up winning the division as well.  It appears as if Pence will bat 5th and fill in the injured Pablo Sandoval’s spot and will likely display his versatility as he was leading Philadelphia in runs, hits, home runs, RBI’s and walks.  This move is also beneficial as the Dodgers have been busy acquiring new assets for a potential World Series run that include Hanley Ramirez and Shane Victorino.

Ultimately, the Giants got a much needed confidence boost after being swept by the Dodgers at home this past weekend including being shut out the final 2 games.  With a little over 60 games remaining in the 2012 MLB season the National League West division race will undoubtedly be one of the most exciting in recent memory.

Rangers Land Ryan Dempster

Ryan Dempster | Texas Rangers Tickets

After 2 weeks of much speculation as to where the Cubs ace Ryan Dempster would be traded to the, 35 year old was sent to the Texas Rangers right at the deadline.  Ironically, the Rangers drafted him back in 1995, though his MLB debut was 3 years later for the Florida Marlins.  He has been shuffled around throughout the bullpen during his 15-year career and has accumulated 87 saves during his tenure in Chicago, though he is now a full-time starter.  Over 16 starts this season Dempster has compiled a 5-5 record and an NL leading 2.25 ERA.  Equally impressive is his strikeout to walk ratio, which is currently 83-27.  The Rangers add an immense amount of depth to their pitching staff with this new acquisition and furthermore match their division rival the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim who recently traded for Zack Greinke.  The Angels have been on fire as of late as they close in on Texas’ division lead so look for Dempster to make an immediate impact for the Rangers.

The trade came as a surprise to many as the Los Angeles Dodgers had seemed to be the clear favorites to win the Dempster sweepstakes, however they apparently pulled out of the discussions at the last minute opening up the door for Texas.  Many baseball experts felt if Dempster did not land in LA he would end up being a New York Yankee due to their history of making big-time moves at the trade deadline, which would have been incredibly detrimental to Texas’ hopes of winning the AL pennant.  With a devastating splitter, slider and fastball Ryan Dempster will vastly improve the Texas Rangers hopes of getting to a third straight fall classic, and hopefully walk away with the title of world champions this time.

A Complete Meat Grinder of Events

NCAA Mens Final Four | Final Four Tickets
In the NCAA basketball tournament there is just a complete meat grinder of events whether it is the opening rounds or the national championship itself. All of the events and March Madness are great things but they pale in comparison to the Final Four. There is nothing that captures our imagination like predicting the Final Four. To be at the Final Four would invoke the jealousy of your friends that could drive them to tears. To have Final Four tickets would have your friends willing to wash your clothes for a year to get you to take them.

The Final Four is just a spectacle to behold. The Final Four is the deciding series of events to see what teams will be the last gladiators standing after the grind that is known as the NCAA basketball tournament. The Final Four has the teams that have managed to wade through the opening rounds to the sweet sixteen and the elite eight and now they can taste greatness at their fingertips. There is a bloodlust for victory that drives them to compete at a level that is often never seen or reached unless you have gotten as far as the teams in the Final Four.

The teams with a rich history such as Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke seem to get there or just a win away but there is always the cinderella team that seems to capture our imagination with the possibility that anything is possible. Who will be the giant killer and make it to the Final Four like some of the unknowns out there that are just lurking to take down a big dog. Going to Final Four is an experience that most people out there merely fantasize about because of the improbability of getting tickets but to get tickets you will be in a class of your own amongst your friends you will be envied by all, that is a promise.
